Every new car or truck begins as sheet steel, which will be transformed into nearly 300 stamped metal parts to build an average car. This is done by massive stamping machines, which may use large steel sheets called blanks, or steel from continuous coils. The machines hammer the metal into shape over special forms called dies, which produce everything from doors to trunk decks, down to small brackets and reinforcing pieces.

Producing parts on tight just in time schedules requires a steady flow of rail cars. Steel arrives in Cushion Coil Cars (932-3850 series with square hoods or 932-3881 series with round hoods) which can be loaded with Steel Coils (933-1499) for more realism. Scrap goes back to the mills in 65' Mill Gondolas (932-3250 series). Finished parts head for auto assembly plants in 86' Hi-Cube Box Cars with four (Individual Cars 932-3500 series, 2-Packs 932-23501 Series) or eight doors (Individual Cars 932-3530 series, 2-Packs 932-23531 Series) to speed loading and unloading.

With its detailed brick curtain construction, this HO Scale model is perfect for layout scenes from the 1920s to the present and looks great serving the Assembly Plant (933-3079). Skylights, a loading dock and lots of other details are included. Plants of this type are an integral part of appliance manufacturing too, turning out steel shapes for refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, hot water heaters and other durable goods.
